Masochism as Risk-Reduction with ThatSwitchyChick and SchadenFraulein
Class Description
At this workshop, we will be discussing trauma, nervous system dysregulation and other risk factors for self-harm behaviors, mental health coping skills and opportunities for utilizing BDSM / masochism as a nervous system regulation practice to reduce self harm and suicidal behavior.
Please note there is little research related to using BDSM in this way, and although the facilitators have experience treating mental health concerns, and experience in kink, there are no established “best practices” around this topic. This session is NOT a substitute for professional mental health therapy. Resources for kink-friendly therapists are available.
Lansing Area AIDS network will be on site providing free HIV/STI testing and free safer sex materials during the break and directly following the workshop.
Presenter Bio
This session will be facilitated by Amy & Jennifer, who are both licensed clinical social workers. Both work in sexual health and provide mental health therapy, and both are members of the BDSM community.
Class Attendance
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Class begins at 7:30 p.m. and runs until 9:30 p.m. Please be punctual. There will be no admittance after 8:00 p.m.
Cost to attend this class is $5.00 for members (be prepared to show your membership card) and $10.00 for nonmembers. Admission is payable at the door.
