Self Defense with Jordan Bonner

We strive to present a self-defense program that focuses on the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. We offer practical advice in navigating violent situations that happen every day. This includes both practical knowledge of self-defense and what to do before and after a conflict arises. We will discuss how to de-escalate a situation whenever possible and demonstrate how to respond legally when a situation becomes heated past the point of talk.

We will start class with a discussion and instruction on the practical and social issues surrounding self-defense. Next Jordan will demonstrate new techniques to respond to physical violence. The last part of class will allow time to practice and perfect those techniques.

Jordan Bonner began studying self-defense and martial arts in Fall 2014; by Winter 2015, he had become a pupil of Dallo Martial Arts in Michigan. Here, he studied a plethora of martial arts ranging from Western Boxing, Wing Chun, and Muay Thai to various Southeast Asian weaponry disciplines, including Filipino Kali and Silat.

Through four years of training under Sifu Dallo and additional tutelage under such masters as Dan Inosanto and Francis Fong, Mr. Bonner has been able to explore the methods of over a dozen martial arts and identify those common elements most practical to the personal defensive needs of most civilians.

Mr. Bonner has been openly gay since 2013 and began attending MIR in 2015. It is his goal to act as an ambassador of practical self-defense to the queer community and promote a safer world for all minority groups through education and empowerment.
